The Cottage

Ridgemount Cottage Nursery School is the perfect place for your child to grow, develop and learn. The nursery is set in a purpose built building in the grounds of a listed, thatched cottage the owners family home.

Pre-schoolers are taught in the converted bakery. The building has been especially adapted for pre-school education. There is an art area, a quiet room for reading or just relaxing: a computer area, a science area and an imaginative area. Activities are based around the Early Years foundation stage. The curriculum is delivered and monitored by 2 experienced infant teachers, with a Level 3 assistant. There is a carefully structured day, with activities based on individual ability - not age. We are particularly proud of our pre-school successes to date!

At Ridgemount we strive to extend our learning through the outdoor environment. Children play outside in the cottage grounds at least twice a day. We have fantastic all weather outdoor play facilities, and a mud kitchen.

We have a purpose built activity area which promotes movement and control for the childrens’ development, which is accessed daily, throughout the year. This enables our setting to promote the importance of the childrens’ motor skills and abilities to explore and develop individually. This then boosts every child’s self-esteem, confidence and capability to achieve. Valuing the whole child, and encouraging fully rounded development leads to positive self-belief, which is key in creating critical thinking and achievement.

Ridgemount Cottage Nursery School has built on its pre-school success by extending the original building. The newer wing is especially designed to accommodate younger children.

Messy Room

Everybody uses this room for sticking, gluing, painting, dressing-up, sand and water play ~ anything and everything! The transition between groups is thus made much easier.

Under 3's (toddlers)

Under 3's (toddlers) have sole use of a large, well-lit room on the ground floor. Here they experience a wide range of activities. They also have easy access to their own outside, sheltered play area

Under 2's (babies)

Under 2's (Babies) have their own dedicated rooms upstairs with easy access to their dedicated outdoor play area. The atmosphere is very much home from home for the little ones.

All the buildings have been purpose built to create a wonderful, safe learning environment. There are art areas, computer bays, imaginative play areas, and a dedicated sleeping room. The toilets and sinks are set at child height. All doors are double glazed with safety glass. Electric points are set above child-height. There are separate outdoor play areas for the different age groups

Great nursery. My daughter had been to a preschool before and never really settled well. As I had started work I decided a nursery would be better and she has come on leaps and bounds. She does 4 sessions a week which at first I was concerned about as she's only 3 but she loves it there. She's making friends and the staff are brilliant.
